Early Spring 2004-Dan Earle Back to Trips

On two successive weekends in early spring Dan Earle and companions paddled Yarmouth's Broad Brook. The first trip was initiated by Paul Goldring when he found the brook in flood stage and suggested we could make the trip from Parade Street, in town, to Kellys Cove at the mouth. In canoe and kayak we made the first run of this brook in many years. A week later, Dan and his wife Sue made the trip in a tandem boat from Wyman's Road to Kellys Cove. It is an interesting paddle. The upper part of the brook is narrow and crosses under roads, some of which require a carry. One stretch is so filled with Alders that it is impossible to paddle. The lower part is mostly wider as it runs through wetlands before narrowing again. For an afternoon's adventure in an urban setting this is a nice trip - but, watch the water levels or it will be a tough hike!
