Lobster Bay is well named for the quantity of lobsters living in this bay because of the water temperature and rich feeding grounds for them. Here you will see many brightly colored buoys used to identify each fishermen's lobster pots dotting the water. The season starts the last Monday in November and goes through to the end of May. During this time these harbours are very busy with lobster boats coming and going. During the summer months the fishermen begin to gather rockweed in the bay. The many islands in Lobster Bay are mostly privately owned, but some owners have graciously given paddlers permission for overnight camping. Lobster Bay provides the paddler with a fair amount of shelter from the wind unless you are paddling out near the more exposed islands.
